Frieda Babette Rittel

Frieda Babette Rittel, 92, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2016 and is now in heaven with her lord savior; husband, mother, father, sisters, brothers, and friends who preceded her in death.

Frieda was born December 14, 1923 in Schweinfurt, Germany.  She attended secretarial school and became legal secretary in the Mayor’s office in Schweinfurt, Germany, which was considered a very prestigious and important position of responsibility.

She was married to George W. Rittel on September 18, 1948, a U.S. soldier stationed in Germany.  Frieda moved to the U.S. in 1948 and one of her proudest moments was becoming a U.S. citizen in 1956.

Frieda was kind, compassionate, had a unique sense of humor, feisty spirit, and great pride. She placed her family first in everything she did. She was a true joy to be around and will greatly be missed by all.

Frieda was preceded in death by her father and mother, Otto Vogel and Katherine Schenk Vogel; brothers, Willie Vogel, Schweinfurt, Germany, and Karl Vogel and wife, Gunda, Lichtenfels, Kosten, Germany; sisters, Christa Schmidtnecht and husband, Otto, Schweinfurt, Germany, Anne Hettrich and husband, Alfons, Wurtzburg, Germany, and Elsa Leni Carrel, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; and husband, George W. Rittel, Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Frieda is survived by her brother-in-law, Harry B. Carrel, Jr., Excelsior Springs, Mo.; sister-in-law, Dorthoy Goetz, Bismarck, N.Dak.; son, Alan G. Rittel and wife, Barbara Rittel, Woodland Park, Colo.; daughter, Patricia Zornes and husband, Bill Zornes, Kearney, Mo.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Zornes Cummins, Laura Dwerlkotte, Alex Rittel, and Eric Zornes; and great grandchildren, Bennett Cummins and Dillon Dwerlkotte. She also has numerous nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Friday, September 30, 2016 at the funeral home. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery, Ft. Leavenworth, Kans. The family suggest memorials to Rock of Ages Lutheran Church, Kansas City, MO.
