Joseph Monteleone

Joseph J. Monteleone, 92, Holt, Mo., passed away peacefully at home February 15, 2013. Joe was born April 14, 1920 to Salvatore and Emma Cosentino Monteleone, who have preceded him in death. He grew up and graduated from high school in Kansas City. He served our country as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Force during W.W.II. He survived his plane being hit and was taken captive as a P.O.W. in Poland.

Joe’s love of machining was evident by his work at Lake City and Bendix, as well as his hobbies of cars, trucks, farming and fishing. He and his wife also traveled extensively by motor home, car, and bus tours. Joe was an active member of the community, AMX POW organization, the DAV, and Northern Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Phyllis; children, Jerralyn (George) Tibbs of Knoxville, Tenn., JoAnn Monaco of Parkville, Mo., Cheri (Rick) Crane of Holt, Mo., Joe Monteleone Jr. of Kissimmee, Fla., Deborah (Gwin) Neatherlin of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Kim (Karen) Jones of Troutdale, Ore., Myjha (Dan) Reim of Enid, Okla., Teresa (Bob) Pruente of Raytown, Mo., Penny (Daryl) Webster of Kansas City, Mo.; 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Northern Hills Baptist Church. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Northern Hills Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to AMX POW.
