
Jeffrey Floyd Mehrer was born in Kansas City, MO, on May 27, 1964, to Theresa Mehrer (Rice) and John F. Mehrer. He passed away unexpectedly on January 21, 2026, at the age of 61. He was raised in Lee’s Summit, MO, as the oldest of four children.
As a teenager, Jeff worked for Gibson Farms where his dad was the foreman. Jeff spent summers mowing, painting fences, and hauling hay. He graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1982. After graduation, he attended the University of Missouri in Columbia and Longview Community College. He entered the Kansas City Regional Police Academy before beginning his 30-year career with the police department in 1985. He loved helping people and developing positive relationships with everyone he met.
During his tenure with the KCPD, Jeff served in the Metro Patrol Division, Traffic Enforcement, Helicopter Unit, East Patrol Division, Forgery Section, Pawn Shop Section, Perpetrator Information Center, Fraud Section and Economic Crimes Section, as well as many off-duty jobs. In his spare time, Jeff enjoyed traveling to bike rallies on his Harley-Davidson motorcycles, hunting deer and turkeys at the family cabin in Hickory County, and swimming with sea turtles in Mexico.
Jeff had two children, Colten (Sabrina) and Peyton (Daniel), with Jeanene Hall and will be remembered for his strong work ethic, sense of humor, and love for his family. He shared his love of hunting with Colten and his passion for animals with Peyton. Jeff was so excited and proud to be “Grampy” to his two grandsons, Colby and Barron.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, John, and infant brother, Mitchell. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his children, Colten Mehrer (Sabrina) and Peyton Sweeney (Daniel); grandsons Colby Sweeney and Barron Mehrer; mother Theresa Mehrer; and sisters Angela Reed (Russell), Julie Stark (Stan), and Molly Mast (Mike).
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on May 30th at Resurrection Downtown (1601 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108) at 10:00 am with a service starting at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wayside Waifs.
