Richard “Pappy” Sloan, 87, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away March 11, 2017 after a fall at work breaking his femur.
Richard was born August 23, 1929 to Allen and Alice Sloan in Missouri City, Mo. He was a Korean War Veteran and a 30 year member of the VFW. He was united in marriage to Kathy Sloan on January 10, 1989. He drove race cars and had a mud truck. He loved truck and tractor pulls, mud runs, Nascar races, country music shows, and his pet’s Finnegan and Corvette. His driving career started in the late 1950’s driving a cab for Benny’s Taxi and he drove a delivery truck for the Kansas City Star in the 60’s before becoming a truck driver for Guy’s Foods and retiring 21 years later. Retirement only lasted two months before he was back on the road again working the past 17 years for Penske trucking.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Don Sloan.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Shelia and husband Gary Sickman, Margo Campbell, Dennis King and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Kindle Vosika, August Montelongo, Alex Campbell, Cara Campbell, Abigail King, Lucy King; and great-grandchildren, Isabella Montelongo, Brooklyn Vosika, Alec Vosika, Oaysiss Campbell, and Maggie Campbell.
