Shirley Jean Belknap, 89, died peacefully March 16, 2017, at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehab Center, Excelsior Springs, Mo.
She was born July 4, 1927, in Arma, Kans., was raised in Nevada, Mo., by John and Ola Fields, and graduated from Nevada High School.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Ray Belknap, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; two daughters, Debby (Nick) Houk, Excelsior Springs, and Melanie (Rodney) Thomas, Kearney, Mo.; four grandchildren, Darci Houk, Kris Newby Burnett, Kim Skeel, and Randy Roberts; as well as great grandchildren and several nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Janet Newby Roberts; two sisters and one brother.
At her request, there will be no funeral or service.

Not sure you will remember me but I went to school with Melanie. Of course I had Ray as a music teacher in elementary school. I had the opportunity to meet Shirley when you all lived next door to us in rural Stanberry. I was so very sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing. Please accept our heartfelt sympathies.
