Shirley Fyock Dowling

Heaven was a buzz when Shirley Dowling, of Kearney, joined the rest of her family July 15, 2017 at the age of 84. Shirley was the youngest of 10 children born June 24, 1933 to Albert and Susie (Burns) Fyock. Shirley grew up in Kansas City, Kans., graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1952 as a proud “Dotte”.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Marg Picklar, Geneva Soetaert, Melvin Fyock, Dorothy Fyock, Harold Fyock, Donald Fyock, Alberta Gaither, Doris Svetlich, and Bob Fyock. Shirley and her second husband, Ed Dowling enjoyed the travel benefits of both being retired TWA employees until Ed’s death in 2007.

Shirley leaves son, Duaine Stewart; daughter, Susan Griffey (Monte); first husband, Paul Stewart; grandchildren, Jessie Griffey, Brehan Kimberling (Mike), and Jacob Griffey; great granddaughter, Payton Kimberling; and “sister like” niece, Suzette Yankovich.

Shirley loved to dress with colors, always coordinating with jewelry and scarfs. Please consider wearing a splash of color or scarf to the service.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017, with service following at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 208 S. Jefferson, Kearney, MO. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, suggested memorials to Shirley’s church, First United Methodist Church, 1000 E. St. Hwy 92, Kearney, MO 64060 or St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
