Lucile Grass

Lucile GrassLucile (Donahue) Grass, 93, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., was passed into God’s hands on September 10, 2017.

She was born in Grayson, Mo., to Washington Garfield “Gar” and Martha Katherine Donahue on November 19, 1923.  She had four sisters and three brothers.  She attended and graduated from Gower High School.

Lucile “Lou” married Kenneth “Kenny” Grass on November 8, 1941.  She always said it was “love at first sight.”  They married two weeks after they met.  They were a perfect match, soulmates for life.  They started their life journey in various cities in California and had five children (two boys, three girls).  Lou was a homemaker and Kenny a mechanic.  After a few years they made their way back to Missouri and continued raising their children.

From time to time Kenny would let her tag along on his weekly fishing trips and during each season they would go berry picking and mushroom hunting together.  She was a wonderful cook and made the best pies you ever tasted.  Her love of her life, Kenny, passed away on January 4, 1981.  Her children have had the privilege of having her live in each of their homes throughout the rest of her life.

We were blessed to have her during her 93 years of life.  She had a life well lived.  She was of sound mind and fairly good health up until her last day.  Her sharpness and clarity must have been attributed to her many hours of working crossword puzzles, playing scrabble and crocheting. We all have many crocheted afghans to remember her by.

She always maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the hearts of many.  Many lives have been changed by her constant love and nurturing.  Her family was her life.  Her absence will leave a huge void in all of our lives.  We will miss her immensely.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Kenny, infant son, Gary, and daughter, Cheryl Sue.

She is survived by her children, Kent (Christina) Grass, Skiatook, Okla., Beth (Michael) Corum, Excelsior Springs, and Karen (Kurt) Johnson, Excelsior Springs; grandchildren, Lora (Michael) Worthan, Staci (Jim) Shockley, Donnie (Theresa) Carter, Heather Ohle, Jason (Suzanne) Grass, Justin (Brandi) Corum, Brett (Wendy) Corum, Lindsay (John) Rickart, and Trent (Jessica) Johnson; 19 great-grandchildren and one on the way, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Private family service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Flowers should be delivered by 11 a.m. Wednesday to Bross and Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
