Wilma Smith, 73, of Excelsior Springs, passed away August 21, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City.
Mrs. Smith was born November 18, 1944 in Muskogee, Okla.
Mrs. Smith retired from the Excelsior Springs School District in 2003 after 26 years of teaching at Westview Elementary. She held a bachelor’s degree from Arkansas Tech University and Masters degree from UMKC. She was a long-time member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. In her retirement years, Wilma enjoyed working in the nursery at the Methodist Church in Excelsior Springs, knitting, and spending time with her friends, many of whom were also retired Excelsior Springs teachers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilford and Hazel Lester, as well as her brother, Bob Melton of Tulsa, Okla.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer (Smith) and Nathan Littlejohn of Stover, Mo.; granddaughter, Chelsey Aulakh; great-granddaughter, Jasleen Aulakh; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Cassandra (Yoakum) Smith of Excelsior Springs; and granddaughter, Makinley Smith.
Visitation will be held at from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Bross and Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
