John William Hawkins, age 83, of Braymer, Mo., passed from this world on May 25, 2020.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Hawkins of Braymer, Mo.; daughters, Timma Harnish (David) of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Robin Hawkins of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Jodie Hughson (Johnny) of Orrick, Mo.; his grandchildren, Jarrett Stamper of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Hillary Stamper of Prairie Village, Kans., Ashford Stamper (Katherine) of St. Louis, Mo., Jonathon Harnish (Kate) of Mission, Kans., Trenton Harnish of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Tara Palmer (Justin) of Liberty, Mo., and Todd Hughson (Brittney) of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; his sisters, Anna Leabo of Braymer, Mo. and Joyce Foster of Toppenish, Wash., as well great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Irvin Hawkins; his mother, Goldie Stroud; his sisters, Betty Johnson, Bea Harness, Velma Goll, Elizabeth Foster, and Virginia Hawkins who died at birth; his grandson, Tyler Hawkins; and his bonus son, Jay Ross.
John was born in Stet, Mo., to Irvin and Goldie Hawkins on July 13, 1936. The family moved to Braymer where he met and married Ruby Ross in 1960 where the couple had three daughters together. He served in the Army as a Medic and after returning home worked as a butcher for L. D. Burns at HyKlas Foods in Braymer. He continued as a butcher, working with his good friend Leroy Frazier, for the majority of his life. He was a great family man, loving father and doting grandfather. His family and friends remember him as a very soft spoken, kind and gentle man. He enjoyed working in his shop, fishing, woodworking, and anything that involved his grandchildren.
