James “Jimmy” Cheek, 72, Lawson, Mo., passed away September 10, 2020.
Jimmy was born January 17, 1948 in Excelsior Springs, Mo., to James and Virginia (Shearer) Cheek. His father died in a vehicle accident before he was born, Virginia later married Stephen Nolker who raised him as his own. Jimmy graduated Lawson High School in 1966. He went to Wentworth Military Academy for two years, where he played football, and then went on to graduate from William Jewell. He worked at Lawson Bank before going to work at Ford Motor Company, retiring after 30 plus years. Jimmy married Debbie Green on July 26, 1996. He loved playing golf and drinking with his buddies at Excelsior Springs Golf Club, playing town team baseball, watching KC Chiefs and Mizzou and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie of the home; children, Ryan Cheek of Kansas City, Mo., Kelly (Renae) Cheek of Lawson, Mo.; Lisa (Tim) Broughton of Lawson, Mo., Tricia Wartenbee of Richmond, Mo., Melyssa Cheek of Kansas City, Mo., and Eric (Nicole) Wartenbee of Nebraska; sister, Stephanie (Donnie) Myers of Lawson, Mo.; brother, Stephen (Mark) Nolker of Peacham, Vt.; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday, September 14, 2020 with memorial service following at Lawson Christian and Presbyterian Church with burial at Lawson Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of choice.
