D. Bryson MacDonald

Bryson MacDonaldBryson MacDonald, 97, Lawson, Mo., died October 8, 2020 at Cameron Regional Hospital. At the time of his death, he was a resident of the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Mo. Before Lawson, Mo., he and his family had previously resided in Shell Rock, Cedar Falls and Southwest Iowa and Platteville, Wisc.

Bryson was born June 21, 1923 in Odessa, Mo., the son of Oscar and Dora MacDonald, and was one of 9 brothers and sisters.

He was a W.W. II Veteran who fought in the Philippines and was taken out of live combat to participate in the Invasion of Japan. A couple of days before the invasion, Truman dropped the Atomic Bomb which almost certainly saved his life. He later performed occupation duties in Japan.

He married Pauline Henss of Wayland, Iowa, on March 19, 1949, who he met at Iowa State University. He spent his business life in Feed Sales, managing a feed elevator and adjusting crop hail.

Bryson lived most of his younger life around the Odessa/Orrick, Mo., area later moving to Tabor, Iowa. He qualified for State in track when a senior in high school, but could not participate because of W.W. II gas rationing.

He loved his Family, Children and Grandchildren. He visited his wife, Pauline, every day for 7 years when she was in the nursing home. He loved family get togethers and reunions including visits from his children, grandchildren and neighbors. He loved antique cars, gardening and flowers, coffee and donuts, cookies, teasing people and telling stories. He did not know a stranger.

He was a faithful member of the Lawson Bible Church and the Lawson VFW.

Bryson is survived by a sister, Dorothy of Richmond, Va.; daughter, Cindy (and Ed) Cox of Rosemount, Minn.; sons, Douglas of Beeville, Texas, and Bob (and Gola) of Lawson, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Bryson will be in-state Wednesday, October 14, 2020 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bross and Spidle Funeral Home Lawson Chapel, 214 N. Pennsylvania Ave., the family will not be present at this time. Funeral service 1 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Lawson Bible Church, 809 W. 6th, Lawson, Mo., with graveside following at South Point Cemetery, Orrick, Mo. The family will be holding a celebration of life service at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Lawson Bible Church.
