Betty Jo Phillips, 88, of Lawson, Mo., passed on November 1, 2020 at her daughter’s home.
Betty Jo was born on December 15, 1931 in Carroll County, Mo., to Alex Johnson and Opal (Dodson) Johnson. She was the youngest of three children. She was baptized on November 29, 1945 at Norborne Baptist Church and graduated from Norborne High School in 1949. On October 28, 1950 she married Raymond Phillips at the Chillicothe Christian Church parsonage in Chillicothe, Mo. They settled and made a home in Braymer, Mo., where they raised two daughters, Donna Rae and Beverly.
Betty Jo was a faithful follower of Jesus who enjoyed Bible studies and loved spreading the word of Christ. She was known for her generous heart and compassion for others. Her selfless love and giving spirit were known by many and especially her family.
She was well-known for her beautiful hand-stitched quilts and crochet work. Also, she was known for her cooking abilities and her homemade noodles. Betty Jo enjoyed cooking for large family dinners and spending time with the family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Opal; husband, Raymond; daughter, Donna Rae; sister, Lucy Rankin; brother, Robert Johnson; and son-in-law, Claren Kerr.
She will be loved and missed by her daughter, Beverly Kerr; three granddaughters, Christie (Tim) Davies, Jamie Clevenger and Codi (Luis) Campos; and nine great grandchildren, Ty (Nikki) Parker, Lexi Parker, Kenzey and Lainey McClard, Gracie and Ben Davies, and Christian, Evelyn and Eliana Campos.
Betty Jo will lie in state from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Lawson, Mo. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Braymer Christian Church, followed by graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery in Braymer, Mo. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions should be donated to Liberty Hospital Hospice.
