Dorothy Ann Self, 90, of Kearney, Mo., went to be with Jesus on January 23, 2021.
Dorothy was born in Grandview, Mo., on September 24, 1930. She graduated from Grandview High School in 1948.
Dorothy was married to James Self on June 5, 1954 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Hickman Mills, Mo.; they were married 66 years. Jim’s Grandfather Hendrix provided the labor to build the church where Dorothy and Jim were married.
Dorothy was a Beloved Wife, Mother and homemaker her entire adult life. She enjoyed cooking, camping, gardening, playing cards and spending precious time with her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. She loved her country home and always had a piece of pie, cake or a cookie ready for anyone that wanted to stop in and say “Hello”. She was also actively involved in her Church (Church of the Annunciation) and The Red Hat Ladies Club.
Dorothy is survived by husband, James Self; children, Ann Strode (John), Greg Self (Rhonda), Tammy Garland (Ken), Chris Self (Amelda) and Joe Self; grandchildren, John Strode (Cristina), Ryan Strode (Justina), Christi Farr (Deuayne), Kendra Jackson (Zack), Tyler Self (Katie), Ethan Self (Jenna) and Alexandria Self; great-grandchildren, Cara, Cienna, Kylie, Coleman, Beckett, Wyatt and Finley; sister-in-laws, Shirley Hayes and Ruth Wilkenson; along with many other special cousins and friends in the U.S. and in Belgium.
Dorothy was preceded in death by parents, Victor and Leonie Corteville; siblings, Charles Corteville (Sally), William Corteville (Alberta), Frank Corteville (Kitty), Mary Thompson (Huey), and Margaret Corteville.
A private funeral service will be held at Church of the Annunciation, Kearney, MO, at 10:00 a.m. February 8, 2021 and on live stream at the Church of the Annunciation website. Public viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. each day February 2 – 5, 2021 at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney, MO. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City, MO, immediately following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Church of the Annunciation, Kearney, MO.

Mrs. Self was at school often when her children went to KHS. I know she was a good mother who loved her children. I’ve visited w her many times through the years. I too liked her children!
