John E. Zitz

John E. Zitz, 78, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away June 4, 2021, at the home. Mr. Zitz was born August 16, 1943 in Rochester, New York.

John was retired from a printing company.  While living in Jacksonville, Fla., he owned and operated two pet stores for many years.  He enjoyed bird and fish breeding.

He received his high school diploma while serving in the U.S. Navy. John was stationed at NAS Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Fla., and served sea duty aboard the USS Peterson, DE152, in Key West, Fla. He was aboard ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He enjoyed model railroading, motorcycle rides, numismatics, marbles, scales and was always ready with a story or joke. John was a fan of NASCAR, KC Chiefs,and KC Royals. He was a volunteer at Good Samaritan Center in Excelsior Springs.

John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Karen; siblings,  Kathy Bolger , Frank Zitz and Delores Steelman; son, Christopher Zitz; daughter,  Letitia Allshouse; grandchildren, Cameron Allshouse (Sarah), Carl Elliott (Reese),  Charla Elliott and Kyle Elliott (Starla); great-grandchildren,  Malkom, Kailyn, Alexander, Zelda Mea’, and Lucas.

Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
