Esther Marie Clevenger, 87, Excelsior Springs, MO, passed away November 11, 2021.
Esther was born February 22, 1934, in Excelsior Springs, MO, to William W. and Marie Belle Crowley. In her earlier years she worked in downtown Excelsior and later retiring from 7-UP. After retirement she worked in the bakery at the old Bob’s IGA store, later finishing her working career at Casey’s General Store in Excelsior Springs. She was a lifelong resident of Excelsior Springs, MO. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary since 1966. She was also a member of Flack Memorial Christian Church for 40 years. She loved watching cats, dogs, birds and for the past year a family of ground hogs.
She met the love of her life, Charles Virgil Clevenger in 1964. They were united in marriage on July 3, 1965. Esther and Charles “Chick” loved Christmas, Esther made candy, pies, and baked goodies for her family. After Chick passed Esther still made Christmas stockings and filled them with candy for the whole family even though it was no longer homemade, it was still very much appreciated. She still made sure they also had presents. Esther and Chick would adopt a family or more, if possible, for Christmas. Esther and her sister Minnie continued this tradition after Chick passed for as long as they could.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; brothers, Francis Crowley and Charles Crowley; and a sister, Minnie Bentz.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews.
