Evelyn Maxine Painter

Evelyn Maxine (Coonce) Painter, 82, of Lawson, Missouri, passed away at home surrounded by family on January 16, 2022.

Evelyn was born at home on June 21, 1939, in Papinville, Missouri, to Charles F. Coonce and Bertha E. (Wilson) Coonce.  She graduated from Rich Hill High School in the class of 1957.

Evelyn worked for 7 years at Southwest Freight Lines where she met Cyrus Painter in 1963. They were married July 12, 1965.  She was a stay-at-home mom until 1991 and worked at Fine Cleaners for 4 years until 1995.

Left behind to cherish her memories are  her husband of 56 years, Cyrus of Lawson; four adoring daughters, Lisa (Jeff) Lewis, Lori (Mark) McNeely, Lana Painter, and Lynda (Jason) Thummel; eight grandchildren, Holden, Landon (Leah), Cameron Lewis, MacKenzie (Grant) Sparks, MaKayla (Jake) Hedrick, Harrison and Delaney (Painter) Cole, and Gavon Thummel; four great grandchildren, Joseph and Azariah Lewis, Evelyn Hedrick, and Brighton Sparks. Also surviving is a sister, Sharon (Wesley) Danner, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, including her lifelong friends “The Gang”.

Preceding Evelyn in death were her siblings, George E. Coonce, Helen Hall, Lewis W. Coonce, Doris D. Thomas, James N. Coonce, Ruth A. Kenney, and Ralph Coonce.

Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, Grandma, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.  Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and attending their events was a highlight. She faced major health challenges in her life, but she met them with strength, grace, and perseverance. Evelyn loved the Lord and the KC Royals and passed both of these loves to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Lawson United Methodist Church for over 45 years.

A celebration of life service will be held in the future.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in her name to the Lawson United Methodist Church, Crossroads Hospice or Parkinson’s Foundation. They can be mailed to Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 214 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Lawson, MO 64062.
