Shirley Sue Elam, 84, of Excelsior Springs, gained her angel wings March 15, 2022 at Valley Manor Nursing and Rehab in Excelsior Springs. She was born at home to Virgil and Anna (Baker) Milligan of Knoxville, Missouri, on November 9, 1937. She was one of nine siblings. She married Arthur Eugene “Gene” Elam on January 23, 1955 and had three children, Rhonda, Randy, and Mark, and moved to Excelsior Springs in 1964. She was a Christian.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; five brothers, J.W., Everett “Gene”, Marshall, Morris Jr., and Billy Joe Milligan; and two sisters, Josephine Sanderson and Livinia “Francis” Scott.
She is survived by daughter, Rhonda Amos; sons, Randy and Mark (Deanna) Elam; and sister, Lois (Bill) Biggs; grandchildren, Kelly, Tracy, James, Jennifer, and Emily; great grandchildren, Quinten, Trevor, Damon, Ava, Lincoln, Truman, Franklin, Madden, Ella, Berkley, and one coming in August; and great-great granddaughter, Berkleigh.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2022 at Bross and Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
