November 3, 1937 – June 14, 2022
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Donald Peery who passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 6:03 p.m. at North Kansas City Hospital. Elston and Anna Mae Peery welcomed Donald Glenn into the world on November 3, 1937. Don graduated from Excelsior Springs, MO, in 1955. He served six years in the Army National Guard as a cook. He carried his love of cooking throughout his life and became known by his family and close friends for his BBQ and his biscuits and gravy.
Don worked for the United States Postal Service for 37 years, most of the time he could be found behind the counter with a smile, laugh, toothpick and an occasional quick-witted comment or two for the people of Excelsior Springs. After retiring from the Post Office, Don would go on to open Horse Play in Wood Heights. For ten years people got the opportunity to visit with him again at many Fridays he would feed those that gathered to sit and just talk.
Don found the love of his life Kathy (Peery) and they married in 1989. Together they enjoyed many years in their home in Wood Heights, MO. Driving by their home people could see his love for his horses as they grazed in the pastures. In the summer he enjoyed gardening and loved to share the surplus with others. In 2013, Don received his fifty-year Freemason pin, that Kathy proudly presented him.
Don leaves behind his wife Kathy, who he pestered daily but could not live without; his grandchildren who he talked about with such great pride, grandson, Joshua, and his wife Marissa Dillon, his granddaughter, Rebecca and husband Charles Cochran, his great grandson, Charlie Glenn Cochran, and great granddaughter, Kacie Cochran; his cousin, Roy Arnold, who stepped up to be the son he never had; his daughter, Tina and her husband Jeffrey Shepard and his children, Derek, Corey, and Tia Shepard.
Don leaves behind so many things but his love for his family and friends remain.
A visitation will be held Friday, June 24, 2022, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., at ES First, located at 1800 W. US 69 Hwy., Excelsior Springs, Mo., with funeral service following at 2:30 p.m.
Arrangements in care of Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.

My condolences Kathy, and family.
Don was never without something smartasss to say. I think that’s why we got along together so good. I just can’t grasp ahold of how Kathy put up with so much of his antics for so many years. Just shows you what love they had for each other. I am still here for anything you need Kathy.
Love you,
Travis
Don brought me his food and it was delicious for sampling.
He was like a father to me. He gave me good advice and gave me a hard time also loved visiting humans kathy at walmart. When I would run late to work at the millinn he would call me to see if I was showing up for work . He was a good friend and I enjoyed all the torment and kindness he showed me daily. It made my day at work better to have my early birds each and every day.
