Patrick Duane Smyers, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on November 23, 2022. He died of natural causes at the age of 67 years old in Kearney, Missouri.
He is survived by his four children, Shannon (Thad) Nave, Stephanie (Lucas) Youngblood, John (Chelsie) Smyers, Montica Minard and his five grandchildren, Seth, Owen, Olive, Atticus and Audrey. He is also survived by his three siblings, Mike Smyers, Nancy Whisler and Susan Hebauf, and the mother of his three youngest children, Donna Smyers, as well as many loving family members and friends.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Elaine (Sorensen) Smyers, and his sisters, Jean Bradshaw and Sally Burgess. We know that he continues to feel loved in the afterlife, reunited with his family.
During his retired life, Patrick enjoyed living close to his daughter, Shannon, in Kearney while being surrounded by animals that brought him great comfort and joy. Patrick was known for his affinity towards animals, never meeting one that he didn’t love. His children could always count on him to fully embrace their menagerie of pets.
However, the real apple of Patrick’s eye were his grandchildren. Patrick prided himself on never missing any of his granddaughter’s volleyball games and taking the grandkids to their annual fireworks shopping extravaganza! He could always be relied upon for last minute Halloween costume runs or random surprises in the mail. He had a heart with an infinite amount of love.
That love radiated around him from the moment Patrick graced this planet on October 29, 1955 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He had a calm, flexible disposition that was valued by his large family, which later served him well during his 20+ years working for TWA. Patrick appreciated all things aviation, following that passion to obtain a degree from Baker College of Aviation in 1978. He could identify the model of the plane flying above his head just by listening to the engine! He later took that love for flight and applied that to the local avian population, becoming an avid bird watcher.
Patrick Smyers lived a loved life, full of adventure, travel and family. He will be dearly missed on this planet, but we know that he will continue to soar to great heights and enjoy the next journey that lies ahead.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a Service from 12 to 1 p.m.
