Maxine Leota Hiel

Maxine Leota HielMaxine Leota (Chinn) Hiel, 85, of Kearney, MO, passed away Friday, November 25, 2022 at Liberty Hospital surrounded by her family.

Maxine was born August 17, 1937 in Birmingham, MO. She attended North Kansas City high school and obtained her bachelor’s degree in teaching at Central Missouri State University. Maxine married Raymond Hiel on August 11, 1962 and they resided in North Kansas City, Gladstone, and eventually Holt, where Maxine retired from teaching after many happy years at Holt Elementary (Kearney School District).

Maxine loved traveling with Ray, reading, knitting/crocheting, and spending time with friends and family especially her three grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her father, Wayne Chinn; mother, Ruth Carr Chinn; sister, Ruth Alta Coffman; brother-in-law, Robert Coffman; nephew, Ron Coffman; and nephew, Rich Coffman.

Maxine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Raymond Hiel; daughter, Dana Ballard (Steve); daughter, Mary Ellen Pruett (John); granddaughter, Madeline Ballard; granddaughter, Monroe Burianek (Justin); grandson, Joey Ballard; along with many friends and family.

Visitation and funeral will be held at the First Christian Church in Kearney. Visitation will be Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral will be Friday, December 2, 2022 at 2 p.m. Graveside service to follow at Mt Olivet in Kearney.

Was saddened to learn of Maxine’s passing. She was a great friend all through high school and beyond. I will always remember her laugh and smile.
