Eleonore “Elly” Sonja Hargarten

Eleonore Sonja HargartenEleonore “Elly” Sonja Hargarten (Anding), of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away surrounded by her family on January 8, 2023, at 83 years of age.  Elly had previously been a long-time resident of Menomonee Falls, WI and Thiensville, WI as well as Brookfield, WI.

Preceded in death by husband, Joseph; son, Jay; parents, Heinrich and Emelia Anding; brothers, Peter and Heinz, and special companion, Otto Schober.

Survived by sister, Elfriede Vasquez, Copperas Cove, TX; children, Robert (Janet) of Smithville, MO, Bruce (Beth) of Hugo, MN, and Cynthia of Healdsburg, CA.  Also survived by grandchildren, Nikolaus, Caleb, and Amelia; numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved furry companion, Snuggles.

Elly was born in Schweinfurt, Germany, and came to the United States at the age of 18. She operated a small business as the owner of Red Wheel Fashions in Thiensville, WI. She was an active member of the Rheinischer Verein of Milwaukee for many years, participating in German Fest and other events celebrating the German heritage. Elly enjoyed traveling, including to her native homeland of Germany and tropical retreats to Punta Cana. She also loved entertaining, gathering with friends and family, gardening, reading a good book, music, and being the life of the party.

A private interment shall be held at a future date at St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Mequon, WI.  In lieu of flowers, donations to KC Pet Project suggested.

We are sure she is dressed to the nines, with exquisitely matching accessories, sharing a glass of Jagermeister and a good laugh with those who left before her. Save some for us, Muttie! Ich liebe dich!

Our Sincere Condolences

My sincere condolences to the whole family.
I remember how she and Joe welcomed me into the Hargarten family. We had so much fun with them. I treasure all the times we spent together.
May Jesus bless you as you enter eternity to join Joe and other family.
Love Val

Condolences to Elly’s children and family. She was my great friend for over 60 years. We shared our lives while we had children business’s German festivals thru the highs and lows of life. I am thankful to have stayed with her last oct for a couple days. She was a ladies lady always, and dear to me and my family. She is missed and loved always.

What a truly beautiful woman we were blessed to know! My heart, hugs and prayers go out to my cousins. Aunt Elly showed me what grace, poise and beauty looks like. She shared so many wonderful memories of my mom (Martha Hargarten) with me and I am so grateful. Going to Germany in 2001 with her was a trip of a lifetime for me and I cherish every memory of that trip. The best one… going to Oktoberfest with her wearing leather pants and looking absolutely fantastic! Delicious holiday dinners, and her own special elegance will be remembered as well. I will miss her so much and will keep her alive in my heart forever. I am a better woman for having known her and thoughts of her will always make me smile. She was my very special Mutte Tante.
Lisa (Hargarten) Dralle

Our sympathy and prayers to the family.
Many happy memories with Elly and the Rh. Verein.
Alois danced with Elly many times, as she was an ideal waltz partner.

To the Hargarten Family,
Elly was our neighbor, friend, and roof mate for eight years in Menomonee Falls, and we just adored her. We had many good times with her and Otto, and shared a lot of laughs through the years. We relocated to Mequon about eleven plus years ago, and she was happy that we ended up near her old neighborhood. Ruhe in Frieden, Elly.
With deepest sympathy,
John and Linda Mankowski
