Shirley Ruth Samborski RagarShirley Ruth Samborski Ragar, ”Shirley Girl”, of Wood Heights, Missouri, passed away December 22, 2023 at North Kansas City Hospital after a five year battle with breast cancer.

Shirley was born April 10, 1956, in Kansas City, MO. Shirley attended school in Excelsior Springs, MO, with the class of 1974. She worked in Excelsior Springs at the Maid Rite restaurant and Smokey’s BarBQue before retiring from Hallmark Cards in 2020 after 44 years of service. She was a part of the Excelsior Springs Elks Lodge ladies auxiliary. Her happy place was floating on her mat at their cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks. She was an avid collector of cobalt blue glass and was a lover of her precious cats.

Shirley was proceeded in death by her father, Henry Francis Samborski, and her mother, Mildred Pauline Hickma; sister, Becky Keen; brother, Henry Samborski; father-in-law, Bud Ragar; and her brother-in-law, Corey Elliot.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Ragar of 38 years. Shirley and Mark were united in marriage on July 5, 1985. Other survivors include a sister, Juanita Crook of Excelsior Springs, MO; brother, Ronald Samborski (Linda) of Richmond, MO; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and her beloved kitties, Lou Lou, Bubby and Little Girl.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2023 at Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. The body will lie in state on December 28, 2023 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Bross and Spidle Funeral Home, 217 W. Broadway, Excelsior Springs, MO.

Family requests no plants or flowers. In lieu of please send contributions to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

We were almost the same age and used to hang around together at all the family picnics back in the day in Kearney and Holt and Excelsior. I remember her grin and laugh. Time and large families spread us out until we lost touch. I hope the same memories of fun times together make you smile through your grief.
