Raymond “Ray” Eugene Hiel

Raymond “Ray” Eugene Hiel, 87, of Kearney, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

Ray was born August 7, 1936 in Oklahoma City, OK. He attended John Marshall high school and obtained his bachelor’s degree in accounting at Oklahoma University. He spent three years in the Army and went on to have a 30-year career with the United States General Accounting Office (GAO). Ray married Maxine Chinn on August 11, 1962. They had many happy years residing in North Kansas City, Gladstone, Holt, and Kearney.

Ray loved traveling with his late wife Maxine, playing golf and bingo, and spending time with friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Maxine Chinn Hiel, father, Raymond Hiel, and mother, Ellen Fenter Hiel.

Ray is survived by his daughter, Dana Rae Ballard (Steve); daughter, Mary Ellen Pruett (John); granddaughter, Madeline Ballard; granddaughter, Monroe Burianek (Justin); and grandson, Joey Ballard; along with many close friends.

Visitation and funeral will be held at the First Christian Church in Kearney. Visitation will be Monday, January 29, 2024 from 10 to 11 a.m. with the funeral at 11 a.m. Graveside service to follow at Mt. Olivet in Kearney.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been setup with the Kearney Food Pantry for donations.

Arrangements are in care of Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney.
