Raymond Lynn Hurt, Jr.

Raymond Lynn Hurt, Jr., of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away February 1, 2024, at Valley Manor in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease.

Mr. Hurt was born in Columbia, Missouri, to Raymond Lynn Hurt, Sr., and Etta Yvonne McCullough on January 27, 1934. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Blackwell and both parents.

Mr. Hurt graduated from Excelsior Springs High in 1952, and attended college in Marshall, Missouri, later studying at UMKC Conservatory of Music. He was active in the Boy Scouts and served as choir director at Woods Memorial Christian Church for 15 years. He retired in 1984 from the Kansas City Star after 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Joyce Elaine (Siegel) Hurt; sons, Jeffery Lynn Hurt and Brent David Hurt, of Kansas City and New York, respectively; granddaughter, Taylor Hurt, also of New York; and niece, Linda (Blackwell) Campbell, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri.

Cremation. No services are scheduled at this time.
