Michael Eugene Mings

Michael Eugene Mings, 68, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Saturday evening, March 16, 2024, at Avalon View Health and Wellness in Liberty, Mo. Mike was born on February 6, 1956, the first son of Emmitt Alfred Mings and Opal Carol (Nickols) Mings in Independence, Mo.

He received Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1965 and was called to preach the Gospel in 1970. He entered the Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant and served from 1974 to 1977. He attended Bible College in the late 1970s at Southwestern Assembly of God University in Waxahachie, Texas, and Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas. He received credentials with the Assemblies of God in 1979, and years later transferred his credentials to the Pentecostal Church of God.

While in the Army, he met the love of his life, Kathryn. On January 9, 1976, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Jo Helden in Lawson, Mo. This union was blessed by two children, David, and Daniel. Mike and Kathy stepped out in full time ministry in 1980, and pioneered Living Word Church in May of 2002.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Myrna Ellington, Nannette Bretzke, and Laura Joann Mings.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Mings, of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; sons, Daniel Mings, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and David Mings of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; grandchildren, Ezekiel, Elijah, and Kameron; brother, Jonathan (Holly) Mings; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Living Word Church in care of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. visitation and service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Living Word Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo. A burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Tony and I and our family are so very sorry to learn of Mike’s passing. We know he is walking on the streets of gold with God but I know he is so very missed. Praying for comfort and peace for you all.  We have so many fond memories with Mike and Kathy when they lived in this area.
