Christopher Michael Como

Christopher Michael Como

Christopher Michael Como was born on July 20, 1969. It was a prominent day in history because it corresponded to the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. He was welcomed by his parents, Vito and Barbara and would later be joined by his brother, Charlie. Christopher passed away May 13, 2024 at his home surrounded by family.

Chris enjoyed playing sports as a child and was especially active in baseball. He enjoyed going to preschool with one of his lifelong best friends, Richard Berry, and especially loved Richard’s mom who would always give him an extra sandwich. Chris had many of the same friends throughout his life that he had had since childhood. These include Richard, Jeff, Brad, Steve, Kevin, Mike, and many more. He loved going to Chiefs games and even just hanging out.

Chris enjoyed spending quality time with his parents, especially on holidays. He always loved food and looked forward to Italian dinners the most. Later at the end of his life, he would enjoy visiting Amish places with his mom and getting snacks.

Chris graduated with honors from Hickman Mills High School . He would then go on to graduate with a degree in Business Management and Marketing from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, without the extra honors this time because he had a little too much fun. This is where he met his future wife, Marcie. He enjoyed a good party and spending time with his friends. The details of which will remain with him. He had lots of good memories from this time period in his life.

Chris and Marcie would go on to get married on June 12, 1993. They would later have two wonderful daughters, Kathlyn and Kaylie. Kathlyn was a social butterfly and was always busy. Once Chris told her that he took ballet lessons when she was asleep at night. She said, “No, you don’t daddy.” He proceeded to twirl and prove to her that he did exactly that, much to the astonishment of some very big eyes. He also liked teasing Kaylie. She pretended like she was Cinderella and he held out her shoe and tried to put it on her mom at first. He said, “You have a giant foot. You must be the evil stepmother.” He then put it on Kaylie’s foot and said, “This fits just right. You must be the beautiful Cinderella”. He then twirled around and danced with her. He loved his girls deeply!

Chris loved family reunions and seeing all of his relatives which are too numerous to mention, but just know that he loved all of you.

Life is short. Nobody knows how much time we have left or when a disease will strip away every last bit of who you are, but God remains. In a world where you can count on nothing you can count on Jesus to be right there beside you. Thank you for being there to celebrate a life that was cut way too short and for supporting those of us who remain and have to go on. Thank you for your prayers and thank you for loving Chris.

A memorial visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2024 at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney, MO.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Hospice or to the family.

Our Sincere Condolences

Marcie, Kathlyn, and Kaylie, I am so sorry. I will always remember Chris smiling and joking during Guipingapalooza. You all are in my prayers.

Marce, Kathlyn and Kaylie, so very sorry for your loss. I knew Chris during his time at Lockton. He was so personable and a very nice person to be around. He was taken much too soon, and I know he will be missed. I hope you can count on the many wonderful memories you all shared and can remember him with loving and fond thoughts.
With much sympathy.

Amber told me of Chris’s passing and my heart goes out to the family. BIG Chris as Amber called him when she was little… was a very vibrant man and will be fondly remembered for his rosy cheeks and big smile amazing sense of humor. Our prayer love and light sent to his family and friends as they grieve.

Chris lived up the street from my brother and me on Overhill Road. As a child, he teased me endlessly. The neighborhood was close-knit, so we were around each other frequently riding bikes, playing ball, or swimming. Chris never stopped teasing. Even as adults he would sneak in a jab.
For me, I will remember Chris fondly for the friendships he created with the Brutalfields. “Life” happens and new responsibilities take priority, but their friendships held on. It’s a beautiful thing.

Even though I haven’t seen Chris in many years I’ve thought of him often since my son (Brad Wolzak) told me he was ill. My sincere condolences for your loss of a husband, father, son, brother, friend.

I am just now hearing of Chris’s passing.  I am so shocked and thinking of all of you.  I can only imagine the trouble he and Brock will be getting in to up in heaven.
