James A. Gillihan, “Tony”, age 67, was called home to Heaven, July 4, 2024. He was born, July 13, 1956 in Alderson, West Virginia to Barbara and Junior Bradley. In later years, his mother having remarried, Tony was adopted by Gerald Gillihan, a wonderful father to him all his life.
Tony attended Raytown South in 1974 but graduated from Blue Springs High. He later attended college for a short time. He served in the United States Navy but returned home after the untimely passing of his younger brother, Nicky Jo. Tony was very proud of being a Veteran. He was taught a strong work ethic early in life and he mastered a great many things. He delivered Vess Cola to various grocery stores, worked for Precision Concrete Co. in 1977 repairing roadways and other construction projects. He also found he enjoyed being his own boss, owning two bars, The Palace I and The Palace II aka The Royal Bar and Grill. He also dabbled in real estate but for some twenty plus years he was in the bonding business, owning his own company, Tony’s KC Bonding. His last job from which he retired was for General Motors.
Tony lived life to the fullest. He especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends at the lake, fishing, boating or most anything involving the outdoors. He also loved walking or playing ball with his dog, Cooper. He devoted much of his time to feeding the homeless of Kansas City, Missouri, forging many cherished friendships. Although he lived in various places throughout his life his last years were spent living in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. On November 21, 2020 he married, Thalia Roxanne Harris, it was a union of great happiness and answered prayer for which they both were grateful. Tony’s relationship with Jesus and being devoted to his faith were of great importance to him, daily he would often say he was counting his blessings and giving thanks.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Barbara Hunter and Junior Bradley; his brothers, Nicky Jo Springer and Nyckeoluz Gillihan; a son, Louis Pace; grandparents, Ladine and Oren Pace; and a sister, Kathy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Thalia Roxanne Harris and their son, Canaan of the home. The entire Harris family loved and embraced him. Survivors also include his dad, Gerald Gillihan; brother, Jasen (Angie) Gillihan; two sisters, Gyna Gillihan Shipley (Kelly) and Adrianna Gillihan; brothers, Jimmy, Chuck and Tommy; and sister, Julie. He is also survived by two daughters, Audum Gillihan and Alisa (Mike) Marchert; a son, Benjoemen Gillihan; six grandchildren, Madalyn Gillihan, Braxton Marchert, Avery Marchert, Mason and Hayden Gillihan, and Nicholas Pace; and a host of nieces and nephews, Masen, Britini, Marressa, Michael, Matthew, Blake and Arlee, along with Bryson and Bennett.
His departure from this life was unexpected and he will be missed by many. It’s not the quantity of years in your life that matter but rather the quality of life in your years. Tony loved and forever remains loved. He always said, “I’ve lived and had a great life.” … and he truly did!
A Celebration of Life event will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements in care of Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
