Dolores June (Wren) Hartel of Liberty, Missouri, passed away July 14, 2024.
Dolores was born in Birmingham, Missouri, to Oscar Thomas and Helen Wren on October 28, 1936. She graduated from Smithville High School in 1954. She met her husband James Herbert Hartel on a blind date. After graduation Dolores married Jim on May 24, 1955 in Alabama. They were fortunate to live in Hawaii for a year where Jim was stationed in the Navy.
After the Navy, Dolores and Jim settled in the Kearney, Missouri area. Dolores was a loving housewife and enjoyed baking for her family. You could always find Dolores cooking or baking in the kitchen. Monday was cookie day and kids and neighbors would show up for fresh baked cookies. After the kids were grown, her and Jim took up ballroom dancing and enjoyed going to dances to test out their skills. After Jim retired, they enjoyed traveling in their motor home for over 20 years. They would visit their son David and grandkids in Florida or daughter Julie and grandsons in Nebraska. In later years, they would go to Yuma every winter. Her grandchildren have fond memories of her special meals and always having cookies ready for them upon arrival. They also enjoyed sitting and listening to a good book.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronnie.
Dolores is survived by husband, Jim of the home; son, Jeff from Turney, MO; son, David (Kathy) from Puerto Rico; and daughter, Julie (Brett) Moller from Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Jamie (Michael) Hartel Cotton and family, Garrett (Kelsey) Moller and family, Matthew (Cossette) Moller, Thomas (Karis) Moller and family, Kalli Hartel, and Harrison Hartel; brother, George Wren; and sister, Kay Wingate and numerous nieces and nephews.
