Richard Edward “Dick” McIntire was born on July 9, 1940 in Mosby, Missouri to Earl and Edna (Eldridge) McIntire. Dick passed peacefully in the loving care of his family on November 27, 2024.
Dick grew up in rural Clay County, Missouri, attending Prairie Home primary school through 8th grade, whereafter he attended Kearney High school, graduating in 1958. He was working at the Sinclair filling station in Kearney, when he became interested in the young lady that lived across the street, Miss Elaine Kay Dean. They were married in 1962, and remained devoted to each other until her death in February of this year.
Dick worked in sales for several years, but eventually became self-employed reupholstering furniture, establishing a stellar reputation in the Kansas City area for fine workmanship and solid business practice. His work ethic would find him working many 12 hour days in his home-based shop.
Dick loved hunting, especially with his son Darren and brother-in-law Chuck. He also enjoyed gardening, and for the past 30 years running his hobby farm in rural Kearney raising cattle, chickens and other creatures to entertain his nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Kearney First Baptist Church for many years.
Dick was a true and beloved husband, father, brother and brother-in-law. He leaves his children, daughter, Shawn (Fred) Wolpert; son, Darren (Cathy) McIntire; daughter, Andrea (Chris) Byers; and grandchildren, Hillari, Colin, Courtney, Bailey, Maiya, Trent, Sydney, Samantha and Katie. He also leaves 16 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Natalie McQuerrey, Louann Hulce and Dennis McIntire along; with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services are to be held at First Baptist Church Kearney on Thursday, December 5, 2024 with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. and funeral service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or National MS Society.
