Betty Mills

Betty Lorain Mills, born November 9, 1932, passed away peacefully May 9, 2025.

Betty was born and raised in Excelsior Springs, MO. She married George “Shorty” Mills May 28, 1950. She was a cherished mother to Vickie, Larry, and Kendall. Betty spent most of her life as a seamstress and later retired from Avsco Plastic Factory. She enjoyed traveling and cruises with George. She loved to go to the lake and fish off the dock, bowling, and the Kansas City Chiefs. She attended games no matter what the weather was and did not leave until the game was over. She loved spending time with her kids, granddaughters, and great grandsons.

Betty is preceded in death by parents, William and Pearl Soutter; husband, George; daughter, Vickie Cannon; son, Larry Mills; brothers, Bill, Frank, and Jack Soutter; sister, Shirley Crabtree; grandson, Jason Matney; and great grandchildren, Dillon Gardner and Audrey Matney; and her beloved dog, Abby.

Betty’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved her.

She is survived by her son, Kendall (Diane) Mills; daughter-in-law, Pam(Steve) Zumalt; granddaughters, Dawn (Jerry) Rudd, Melissa (Dave) Rumore, Ashley (Marc) Smith, and Kailey (Justin) Kuntz; great grandsons, Brendan (Katlyn) Martin, Kodie Martin, Tyler Rumore, Cameron Rumore, Landon Smith, Reed Smith, Grahm Kutz, and Barrett Kuntz; great-great grandsons, Jase and Bradley Martin; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, May 16, 2025 from 10 to 11 a.m., with services at 11 a.m., at Barbee Church in Excelsior Springs. Burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are in care of Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
