Helen Joanne Cockrum

Helen Joanne Cockrum, 89, of Excelsior Springs, MO, passed away December 22, 2025 at Liberty Hospital. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Cockrum was born August 6, 1936, in Chalk, Texas.  She married Arvil Cockrum on November 26, 1951, they remained married until his death and had four children, one son and three daughters.

She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witness in 1974.

Her and her husband enjoyed taking road trips and sightseeing. She was a very good seamstress, sewing for her girls and then grandchildren.  Making quilts for her family was one of her favorite hobbies. She also enjoyed crocheting, making intricate doilies, tablecloths and blankets.  She enjoyed family gatherings but was rather private and reserved around most people.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tucker Allen and Lucy E. Messick; three siblings and her husband of 61 years, Arvil D. Cockrum.

Survivors include one brother, Leon Messick of Mountain Home, AR; son, Troy Cockrum (Kathy) of Excelsior Springs, MO; three daughters, Sandra Folsom of the home, Debra Rico of the home, and Sherry Gregory (Jack) of Branson, MO;  15 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
