Larry A. Hagen

Larry A. Hagen of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, passed away on January 20, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on March 11, 1942 to Oren and Anne Hagen in Jacksonville, Illinois. After losing his sight, Larry attended college at The University of Illinois where he earned his masters degree in sociology and psychology. He went on to serve his community as a family and addiction counselor at the Wells Center in Jacksonville and Decatur Mental Health.

On November 23, 2000, Larry married his wife Barbara, and moved to Excelsior Springs, Missouri. He continued his passion for helping others and began volunteering as a counselor at the Good Samaritan Center in Excelsior Springs, which he continued up until his death.

Throughout his life, Larry’s relationship with God was kept a top priority. Since 1971, he was a devoted and active member of the Living Church of God. He exercised living faith in all aspects of his life, which was evident in his dedication to helping those around him. Wherever he went, he always made sure to have his audio bible on hand.

Larry had a passion for all things sports. As a native of Illinois, he was a loyal fan to the Illinois Fighting Illini and the Chicago Bears. After his move to Missouri, he quickly took up rooting for his adopted Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, and enjoyed attending games with his wife Barbara. Larry could always be seen with his radio in hand, listening to the big game.

Larry and Barbara spent many years traveling together. Whether it be small weekend getaways, cross country trips, or even a journey all the way to Hawaii, he loved getting to experience new places with his wife and form memories that would last a lifetime.

Family was a pillar in Larry’s life, and he cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He touched the lives of each and every person he met, and will be missed dearly by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

He is preceded in death by parents, Oren and Anne Hagen; and stepbrother, Leonard Fearneyhough.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hagen (of the home); children, Jeffrey (Anna) Hagen of Anderson, IN, and Kirk Hagen of Gibson City, IL; step children, Daniel (Cindy) Gooding of Lawson, MO, David (Courtney) Gooding of Lawson MO, Dustin (Brandy) Gooding of Excelsior Springs, MO, and Rustin (Kelly) Gooding of Wright City, MO; sister-in-law, Andre Fearneyhough of Springfield, IL; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
