On Feb. 1, 2026, Vera Jean (Walker) Brunke, age 87, went home to be with the Lord.
Vera was born on May 25, 1938, to Clarence and Mary Walker.
Vera met her husband of 58 years, John Brunke, in 1959 and they were married November 20, 1960. To that union six children were born. Vera was a homemaker and helped her husband for 12 years at Brunke Hardware. Vera was a member of North New Garden Primitive Baptist Church.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; three sisters, Ester Prior, Edith Surbaugh, and Lois Freeland; five brothers-in-law, Richard Prior, Charles Surbaugh, Freddy Boen, John Gray, and Kenneth Brunke; sons-in-law, Clinton Robert Estes and Curtis Huson; daughters-in-law, Cheri Brunke and Betty Brunke
She is survived by her six children, Mary Estes of Excelsior Springs, MO, Robert (Jackie) Brunke of Topeka, KS, Myra Medlin of Thomasville, GA, Albert Brunke, Tina (Marcos) Guerrero of Tucumcari, NM, and Lila Huson; eight grandchildren, Miles (Belén) Medlin, Mariah (Brett) Exeley, Maverick Huson, Matthew Guerrero, Marshall Huson, Remington Huson, Lorenzo Huson, and Zane Guerrero; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Ella Boen and Lena (Jerry) Miller; two brothers-in-law, Harry Freeland and Larry (Clara) Brunke; one sister-in-law, Pat Brunke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, MO. Funeral Service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2026, also at the funeral home with burial following at North New Garden Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, MO. The family suggests memorial contributions to North New Garden Primitive Baptist Church.
