Mrs. Rhonda Kay (Duncan) Taylor, 64, of Lawson, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, February 4, 2026, while under hospice care and surrounded by her loving family.
Rhonda was born on January 11,1962 in North Kansas City to Lewis “Pete” and Betty (Bridges) Duncan, formerly of Mount Moriah, Missouri. She spent most of her childhood in Lawson, graduating from Lawson High School in 1980. She then went on to graduate from UMKC in 1984 and begin her lifelong career as a Medical Technologist. Rhonda’s
long work life was spent in the labs of local hospitals at Excelsior Springs and then in Liberty, where she met many colleagues that she lovingly called friends and was looking forward to retirement.
Rhonda will be cherished by her loving husband and best friend, Mike. Rhonda and Mike Taylor married on October 28, 1988. They met as kids at school in Lawson, where everyone knows everyone in town. When they reconnected after graduation, that would later provide Mike an opportunity to tease that Rhonda was always the “teacher’s pet” (which she would also proudly admit). After marriage, Mike and Rhonda spent their lives together on the Taylor Family Farm in Lawson enjoying the true beauty of living a simple, family-focused life.
Rhonda will be deeply missed by her family who recognizes that she was the very definition of a matriarch; always caring and nurturing and without a thought of herself. Proudly serving the people she loved is her legacy. If there was ever something that someone needed, either Rhonda or Mike was already on their way to help. Rhonda was happiest being with family whether it be at dinners, coaching softball or attending ball games, concerts, performances, school trips, doctor’s appointments, going to the casino or fun getaways. She was both her kids’ and grandkids’ biggest supporter without question and will be deeply missed by those who were lucky enough to know her.
Rhonda is preceded in death by her mother, Betty (Bridges) Duncan.
She is survived by her father, Lewis “Pete” Duncan; a brother, Greg (Jenny) Duncan; a sister, Cheryl Duncan; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Alta Taylor; brother-in-law, Brad (Kathy) Taylor; nephews, Justin (Rachel) Taylor, Braydon (Sarah) Taylor, J.D. Duncan and Zeb (Ben Martin) Duncan; several great-nieces and great-nephews, many cousins and extended family and friends, whom she cared deeply for.
Rhonda is also survived by her daughter, Andrea (Nikki) Camp; her son, Travis (Samantha) Taylor; granddaughters, Dace Rodriguez, Vivien McQuerrey, and Evie McQuerrey; and her soon-to-be baby grandson that she was beyond excited for, R.W. Taylor.
Services for Rhonda Taylor will be on Monday, February 16, 2026, at United Christian Presbyterian Church in Lawson with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the church.
Arrangements are in care of Bross & Spidle Funeral Home Lawson Chapel.
