Marlene Kay Walker

Marlene Walker

Marlene Kay Walker, 72, of Gladstone, Missouri, passed away peacefully in her home on February 16, 2026 following a battle with brain cancer, which she fought with utmost strength and surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

Marlene was born November 2, 1953 in Leavenworth, Kans., and a short time later was adopted by Don Peter and Marilyn Forslund Peter (Heath). Marlene grew up in Kansas City, Mo., eventually marrying Earl Walker and living in Gladstone, Mo., where she raised her family.

Marlene was a talented gardener. Maintaining her flower beds and garden was her favorite pastime. She enjoyed watching her grandson’s activities, photos from her daughter’s adventures, lunches with her friend Sheila and spending time with her sister. In her retirement she loved riding her zero turn lawnmower, sitting by her garden with her beloved dog Firo and giving away her home grown tomatoes. She will be remembered for her wittiness, her wisdom and being a person who you could talk to about anything on your mind.

Marlene’s light continues to shine through her daughter, Marissa Walker, and grandson, Brennen Knabe; sister, Linda Nelson; long time friend, Steve Newell; and her other family and friends who she loved dearly. A celebration of life will be held at a later time in the spring at an outdoor location when the flowers are blooming.

“May the four winds blow you safely home.”

Arrangements are in care of Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney.
