1941 – 2026
Gerald Eugene “Jerry” Hoover passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026 in Kansas City, Missouri. Jerry was born on June 26, 1941 in Mercer County to Wesley and Avanelle Hoover.
Jerry graduated from East High School and then married the love of his life, Janice Kay Taff on August 12, 1960. They would celebrate 65 years of marriage and build a wonderful life in Holt, Missouri. That is where they would raise their daughters and enjoy every chance they had to spend time with their grandchildren. Jerry’s family was his pride and joy and if there was an activity they could watch their grandchildren participate in they would be there. They all enjoyed several trips together and it was at that time, Jerry and Jan were the happiest.
Jerry was a successful business owner of Taff’s Carpets in Kearney, Missouri. Jerry also enjoyed spending time at his farm and always welcomed his kids and grandkids.
There wasn’t much Jerry couldn’t do, fix or help with. He was commonly referred to as the “Wise old Man” by his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his beautiful wife Jan Hoover, his daughters and spouses and his three grandsons and one granddaughter.
Jerry was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Abidale.
On Saturday, March 28, 2026, a private family service and burial was held.
Arrangements were in care of Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney.
