Sondra “Sonnie” Asberry, 91, formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away June 15, 2026.
Sondra was born September 8, 1934. She was united in marriage to Charles “Ed” Asberry in DeSoto, Mo., on September 28, 1951. Together they were blessed with three children: Randy, Darla, and Kristin.
Sondra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles “Ed” Asberry; her son, Randy Asberry; her granddaughter, Angela Dawn Asberry; and her son-in-law, David Sims.
She is survived by her daughters, Darla Sims and Kristin (John) Peterson; and Judy Domann, who will always remain a special part of the family. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Charlene Hagerty; her grandchildren, Angela (Matt) Siegel, Mindy (Ed) Knutter, and Emily Peterson; her great-grandchildren, Garrett (Havannah) Siegel, Owen Siegel, Laura Siegel, Chloe Knutter, and Carter Knutter; and special friends, Carmen and Jeff Duncan, Dylan and Bri.
Sondra had a true gift for cooking and caring for others through food. Over the years, she prepared meals for countless neighbors, church events, friends who were sick, and families celebrating special occasions. Whether it was a quiet act of kindness or a large gathering, she showed her love by feeding others and making them feel cared for.
In accordance with Sondra’s wishes, no funeral service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Sonnie’s memory to the Orrick Christian Church Building Fund, Life.Church Northland, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
