She was born March 6, 1940 to Fred and Maxine (Fugitt) Peterson.<\/p>\n<p>Mona was raised on a farm off Nation Road in Holt, Mo. She married Richard Schmidt in 1960 and raised their two children, Barry and Sue, on their farm off C Highway in Kearney, Mo. She taught school at Holt Elementary and was a Bible school teacher. She loved to sing. She sang and toured with the Sweet Adelines. As a farmer\u2019s wife she raised her own hogs, worked at Dillard&#8217;s, was a cashier at Big V in Kearney, and was a seamstress at World&#8217;s of Fun, where she used to mend the jerseys of the Kansas City Chiefs. She was a fan of westerns and musicals, enjoyed reading fiction novels, watching singing and dancing competitions, and was an avid cat lover. She enjoyed cooking and had a huge stack of cookbooks, always sharing them with her relatives. One of her favorite pastimes was watching the wildlife through the windows of her farmhouse. She most enjoyed watching her son\u2019s and grandson\u2019s cattle graze and the newborn calves grow in her backyard with Mouser by her side.<\/p>\n<p>She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Maxine Peterson.<\/p>\n<p>Mona is survived by children, Barry Schmidt and Susan (Schmidt) Fouts; Barry\u2019s wife, Linda (Ziegler) Schmidt, and their three children, Luke Schmidt, Matt Schmidt, and Rachel Schmidt; Matt\u2019s fiance, Katie O\u2019Brien, and their three children, Isabella, Wyatt, and soon-to-be-here Charlie Mae; Sue\u2019s husband, Rick Fouts, his son, Richard Fouts, along with his wife, Kelsey (Spainhower) Fouts, and their two children, Gunner and Tucker; Mona\u2019s, John Peterson and his wife, Donna. She also leaves behind three nieces, Christine, Janet, and Nancy; Barry and Susan\u2019s father, Richard Schmidt; and her beloved cat, Mouser, who is now in the care of Richard.<\/p>\n<p>Mona was a beloved sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was the type of person who easily made others feel like family and made sure to make everyone feel at home. She lived her life making others laugh and smile, and continues to do so in heaven. She was a beautiful woman with the biggest heart and will be greatly missed by all those who love her.<\/p>\n<p>Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2017 with a Memorial Service following at 6:30 p.m. at Fry-Bross &amp; Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney. Burial will be held at a later date in Muddy Fork Cemetery, Kearney, Mo.<\/p>\n<p>In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to please send donations to Muddy Fork Cemetery.
