Norma Jean Gorsett, 87, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away March 22, 2018.<\/p>\nNorma Jean Gorsett, 87, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away March 22, 2018.<\/p>\n
Norma was born March 11, 1931, in Windsor, Mo., the daughter of Garland and Chloa Acker.\u00a0 She lived in Windsor until 1947, when she moved to Sedalia, Mo., and attended Business College.\u00a0 She married James A. Gorsett on September 19, 1949.\u00a0 He preceded her in death in 2000.<\/p>\n
She began her work experience in her hometown as a waitress and after attending school in Sedalia, she worked for Town and Country Shoes as a Payroll Clerk.\u00a0 She moved to Kansas City for a few years and later moved to Excelsior Springs, Mo., and worked at the Royal Grille, Elms Hotel, and Payne Jewelry.\u00a0 She worked at National Bellas Hess in North Kansas City for for 7 years.\u00a0 Later she worked for the Clay County Election Board in Liberty, Mo., and retired as Republican Director of Elections after 21 years with the Board in various capacities.\u00a0 She served on the Republican Central Committee for 18 years and during that time worked to make Clay County more favorable to Republicans.\u00a0 She was very active in the Methodist Church and later in the Disciples of Christ Christian Church service in many positions, among them Deacon, Elder, and Chairman of the Board.\u00a0 She was a member of Woods Memorial Christian Church.\u00a0 She was very active in community affairs and served on the Board of the Good Samaritan Center as a Director and two terms as Board President.<\/p>\n
Norma is survived by her sons, Pat and wife, Holly Gorsett of Carrollton, Mo.,\u00a0 and Mike and wife, Loryn Gorsett of Denver, Colo.; brother, Francis D. Acker of Windsor, Mo.; sister, Sandra Bonner of Independence, Mo.; nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.<\/p>\n
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 217 W. Broadway, Excelsior Springs, Mo., with service immediately following. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia, Mo.\u00a0 In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions to The Good Samaritan Center, Woods Memorial Christian Church or Wakenda Baptist Church of Carrollton.<\/p>\n
Sorry for your loss. She was a great lady. I always loved working with Norma in church, going to camp and here at the end the homeless event. So many memories. She got me started working elections. Loved being in Sunday School with Jim and Norma. All the events we worked on at the First Methodist Church downtown. There are so many memories I have with Norma.
