Jeffery L. Carrel, age 71, passed away at his home in Excelsior Springs, Mo., on February 2, 2019 after a lifelong battle resulting from injuries he sustained in Vietnam.<\/p>\n

Jeff was born May 29, 1947 in Excelsior Springs, Mo., to G.W. and Erma Gean Carrel.\u00a0 He graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1965.<\/p>\n

Jeff enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968 where he was severely injured by a shot to the head.\u00a0 He spent the remainder of his military service in the Great Lakes Medical Center where he eventually obtained his honorable discharge.<\/p>\n

Jeff married Diane Chipps on February 11, 1982 in Kansas City, Mo.<\/p>\n

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, G.W. Carrel, mother, Erma Gean Barber, step-father, Duane Barber, and grandparents, Harry B. and LouElla Carrel and Ernest and Mildred Clemmons.<\/p>\n

Survivors include his wife, Diane; his son, Matt; his stepson, Gary (Tracy) Grass; his sister, Pam Love; and his half-sister, Cathy Scott; grandsons, Mason and Lakota Carrel and Damon Grass; his uncle, H.B. \u201cShorty\u201d Carrel and cousins, Harry Carrel, his wife, Nok, and stepdaughter, Nam Thip, and Carl Carrel; and sister-in-law, Connie Chipps-Ueling; nieces, Tamera (Brandon) Kidwell, Tanya (George) Temores; and nephews, D.J. Herzog, Shawn and Neil Scott; and many great nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Hillcrest Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo.<\/p>\n

Jeff and I worked together, went on double dates together, enjoyed life together, joined the Marines together, fought in Vietnam together, and remained friends for over 50 years. We did it all, didn’t we Jeff? We lived it all, didn’t we Jeff? Thanks for letting me join you for the ride. It was one hell of a ride, wasn’t it Jeff? Now it’s time for you to rest. You will be missed my friend.

I have known Jeff since Cub Scouts.\u00a0 Went to high school together and served in the Marines and Vietnam but not at the same time and place.\u00a0 Jeff was awarded the Silver Star for heroism having been wounded four times on two different occasions.\u00a0 I was privileged to call him my friend.\u00a0 Semper Fi.
