He was born to Omar and Marjorie Garrett in Sedalia, MO.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by the love of his life, Roberta &#8220;Berta&#8221;, who he was married to for 47 years. He is also survived by his son, Travis Barker; grandsons, Blake Garrett and Garrett Barker; three granddaughters, Kayla Barker, Alli Lucht, and Makenzie Garrett; and great granddaughter, Freya Fears.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale Garrett; and a son, Charley Garrett.<\/p>\n<p>Charley was a long time resident of Excelsior Springs and lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. He was a pipefitter with Local Union #533 and retired from Ford Motor Company.<\/p>\n<p>He was a member of Salem Christian Union Church.<\/p>\n<p>He enjoyed outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends and playing cards. He never met a stranger and was known for his luck.<\/p>\n<p>He served his country earning a &#8220;Green Beret&#8221; in the U.S. Army Special Forces and served in Operation Desert Storm with the U.S. Naval Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>Visitation will be Monday, May 24, 2021 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Bross and Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. A brief service will be held at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #efdbd9; padding: 1em;\">\n<h5>Our Sincere Condolences<\/h5>\n<p>I am sorry for your loss, he was a great guy and a good friend.<br \/>\nJohn A Hill<\/p>\n<p>Berta We are so sorry for your loss.
