Wilbur was raised in the Concordia, MO, area and graduated from Concordia High School in 1961. As a child, Wilbur was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Ernestville, MO. On March 7, 1964, he married M. Kay McGowan. In 1971, they became members of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Wilbur enjoyed playing cards with his buddies and grandchildren, especially pinochle. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and antiquing.<\/p>\n<p>Wilbur was preceded in death by both sisters, Doris Hemme and Loretta Mueller, as well as three nephews.<\/p>\n<p>Wilbur is survived by his loving wife, Kay; three children, Cathy McIntire (Darren), DeAnna Massey (Dana), and Kevin Brockhoff (Trisha); 15 nieces and nephews, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Excelsior Springs. Service immediately following at 10:30 a.m. Reception for family only after the interment at Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, MO.<\/p>\n<p>In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions to either Parkinson\u2019s Research, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or National Multiple Sclerosis Society<\/p>\n<p>Arrangements in care of Bross &amp; Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #efdbd9; padding: 1em;\">\n<h5>Our Sincere Condolences<\/h5>\n<p>Dear Kay, Cathy, DeAnna, Kevin and family,<br \/>\nWith sympathy in the loss of your dear husband and father\u2026who was so special\u2026so loved\u2026and who will be so warmly remembered by me. He was a humble and decent man that will be missed by family and friends. On a personal note, I hated playing spoons against him because he had an extraordinarily quick right hand. Never thought I would be sending you this &#8211; exactly a year almost to the date that Kenneth passed. I know there are really no words that helps to comfort as no one understands the soul wrenching loss you&#8217;re feeling, except others who\u2019ve been through it also. He had such a beautiful voice. I just loved hearing him sing the hymns. He had a kind soul. I met Wilber when he took the time to take my my father Andrew W Martens to medical appointments when I was unavailable. It was always good to see Wilbur to see him at church and I know he was proud of his family.
