He had two brothers and three sisters. He has one surviving sister, Mary Cheek of Nashville, Ind. Paul, \u201cPops\u201d, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 25, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>He leaves behind his wife, Ruth Shaffer, of the home; four daughters, Debbie Hilliker, Tammy Sweezey, Jackson, Mich., Jodie Shaffer-Loveall, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Jessica (Josh) Butler, Lawson, Mo. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, Christian Shaffer, Paige Loveall, Bodie Loveall, Brayden Butler, Darian Butler, and Danielle Hilliker. He is in heaven with his oldest grandson, Shawn William Shaffer. He also leaves behind four great grand children, Donovan Storm Pate, Donelle, Damon and Roe.<\/p>\n<p>Paul graduated from Glenn High School, Terre Haute, Ind., in 1958. Upon graduation he joined the Army. After basic training he attended jump school at Fort Bragg, S.C.\u00a0 He later completed Green Beret training at Fort Benning, Ga. He served his country in the Army for nine years.<\/p>\n<p>He met his soul mate, Ruth Payne, in 1967 in Kansas City. They were married a year later and remained married for 53 years. Paul attended Penn Valley College in Kansas City, Mo., for two years. He worked many years as a truck driver dispatcher. After that he operated a shuttle service with his daughter, Jessica, until his retirement. Paul was an umpire and coach for youth sports for twenty years. He influenced many kids. Paul was a God fearing man and attended Pisgah Baptist Church for most of fifty years. Paul was loved by everyone he encountered even if he didn\u2019t always agree with them. Paul will be greatly missed by his friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a celebration of life at Pisgah Baptist Church, October 1, 2021.
