Alma Eastep

Alma Louise Eastep, 98, formerly of Kearney, Mo., passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Valley Manor, Excelsior Springs, Mo. She was a sweet lady with a pure heart.

Louise was born July 31, 1914, in Kearney, the daughter of Charles L. and Helen Pence Smith. She married Lester Eastep in 1955. He preceded her in death in 1992.

Her surviving support group includes these nephews, nieces, cousins and friend: Chuck (Gwen) Yurieci, Bloomington, Ill., Deanna Louise (Alan) Frautschi-Bedell, Bloomington, Ill., Mary (John) Bowles, Stillwater, Okla., and, from the Kansas City area, Kenneth (Jane) Eastep, Joni (Jeff) Goodman, Tracy Scheible, Kenna (Lance) O’Sullivan, Roger (Sue) Britt, Linda (Bob) Lemon, Warsaw, and Barbara Tapp, Sheridan, Wyo. (formerly of Kearney).

Louise was a grade school teacher for 35 years in the Kansas City school district. She was a graduate of Central Missouri State University and held a Masters from Columbia University New York.

Most of her married life was spent in Independence. She later moved to Westbrook Assisted Living in Kearney for 10 years before spending the last three years at Valley Manor. She was much loved and cared for by an excellent staff at Valley Manor.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home. Rev. R. L. Hankins will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Kearney, of which Louise was a member.
