William "Bill" Belcher
William “Bill” Belcher, 89, Kearney, Mo., died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009. Mr. Belcher was born April 17, 1920, in Braley, the son of Sidney Burton and Sarah Lee Howe Belcher. After serving in the U.S. Army for 30 months in World War II, he was married to Christine Thompson in September 1946. He was employed by Ford Motor Company for many years before retiring from there in 1982. He had been a member of the Kearney Methodist Church since 1961, and was also a charter member of VFW Post #5717 in Kearney.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Belcher and Lloyd Belcher; a sister, Louise Belcher Estes; and one granddaughter, Sarah Christine Belcher. Survivors include his wife, Christine Belcher; sons, Bill Belcher, Holt, Phillip Belcher, Milton, Wisc., and Chris Belcher, Columbia; four sisters, Erma Lee, Tulsa, Okla., Carolyn Graham, Cameron, and Annie Dykes and Alta Kent, both of Richmond, nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturay, Nov. 28, at the church. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements are through Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney.
