Billy Griffith McGaugh
Billy Griffith McGaugh, 82, of Excelsior Springs, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Liberty Hospital.
Bill was born on October 25, 1932 to Cleo and Lillie (Clemons) McGaugh. Their home was in Rayville, Mo. His parents and his brothers, Bartley “Bart”, Bennie “Ben”, and Bobbie “Bob”, preceded him in death. His sister, Bernadine Bergenhofer, survives.
Bill began working as a Stapler Operator from 1949 to 1953. In June, 1953, he was drafted into the Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in West Germany until his honorable discharge in February 1955. After a short time working for a brewery in 1955, Bill found long-term employment at the Rudy Patrick Seed Company, from 1956 through 1971 when the company closed. From 1972 until his retirement in 1997 he worked at the North Kansas City School District.
On February 17, 1957, Bill married Peggy (Good) of Excelsior Springs. They shared nearly 48 years of marriage until her death on November 9, 2004. Together they raised six children. Survivors and their wives, include Donna Corum and Mike (Beth) Corum from a previous marriage; John (Linda) McGaugh; Bill E. (Kellie) McGaugh; James (Susan) McGaugh; Matthew (Shawna) McGaugh. All are from the Excelsior Springs, area. He also enjoyed 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Additionally, he has three great-grandchildren on the way. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. A service celebrating Bill’s life will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home. Immediately after the service, Bill will be buried at Crowley Cemetery.
