Betty Spry
Betty Mae Spry, 83, Liberty, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Spry was born Aug. 21, 1926, in Birmingham, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Elsie A. Weathington Owens. She was a graduate of Missouri City High School. She was married to Lawrence Spry on Feb. 17, 1945. She owned her own beauty shop for 32 years. She was a member of the old Chandler Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Alma Lee Runge, Pauline, Hiram Webster, Wilma Vroman, Dorothy Runge, G.C. Owens Jr., John D. Owens, Peggy Mason and Buddy Owens. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Lawrence Spry, of the home; children, Wayne E. Spry, Martha E. Offutt and Randall Spry; sister, Mary Lou Huston; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney. Inurnment will follow at Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
