Carol Alice Kessler Staelens
Carol Alice Kessler Staelens, 77, Lexington, Ga., passed away December 18, 2014.
Carol was born in Hurlingen, Mo., on April 8, 1937 to Henry Edward and Alice Irene (Wiedmaier) Kessler. She was the fourth born of seven children. She married Paul James Staelens, November 10, 1962. They had seven children, Paul Staelens, Mark Alan Staelens, John Staelens, Sarah Ann (Staelens) Woodsides, Rebecca Irene (Staelens) Cox, Anne Marie Kessler (Staelens) Petroski, and John Paul Staelens.
Carol was a homemaker and an advocate for education, family values and the right to life. She enjoyed classical music, playing the piano, baking, gardening and sewing. Carol traveled before she started her family and encouraged her children to do the same. She volunteered to introduce classic art to elementary students and later found herself sewing costumes for plays, not only for her daughter but herself, and performing in them too. Carol enjoyed hosting family gatherings.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; two infant sons, John and Paul Staelens; and a brother, Glen Roger.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; sons, Mark (Kate) and John (Anita); daughters, Sarah Woodsides, Rebecca (Bradford) Cox, and Anne (Randy) Petroski; seven grandchildren; brothers, Curt (Frances), Earl (Joyce) and Dwight (Deann); sisters, Shirley Hitchcock and Lois (Robert) Taczala; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial will be Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Fry-Bross-Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney, Mo. The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church, Liberty, Mo. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.
