Donald Wayne Burton
Donald Wayne Burton passed from this life on Saturday, June 25, 2016. He was born on July 10, 1931, in Kansas City, Mo., to Elmer and Bertha (Coyle) Burton. Don lived almost his entire life in Kansas City with the exception of a couple of years in the late 50's to early 60's when he lived on a small family farm in Morrisville, Mo.
Don attended high school at North Kansas City High School. He served his country in the Army as a member of the 5th Armored Division. Don married his wife, Jean, in 1959. Jean had two daughters, Sharon Lee Mark Holcomb (Danny) and Katherine Marie Mark Reeder (Jim) with her first husband. Don and Jean had two children, Donald Wayne Burton II, and a daughter, Rosemary Burton Maxwell (Brett).
Don worked for a number of years at Railway Express and retired from Churchill Truck Line in 1985. Don enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, and following the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, and the University of Kansas Jayhawks basketball team. Don attended the West Tracy Church of Christ in Excelsior Springs.
Also surviving Don are 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and a nephew.
A graveside memorial service will take place at the time of inurnment at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Mo.
Memorials may be directed to Fair Haven Children's Home in Strafford, Mo.
Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
