Dorothy Ellen Cooper passed in peace Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the age of 90 at North Kansas City Hospital.
Dorothy was born June 20, 1925 in Kansas City, Mo. Dorothy was baptized at St. Paul's Church in Kansas City, Mo., on December 18, 1927. She spent the beginning of her childhood years at her family home on Johnson Drive in Shawnee, Kans. Her family then moved to Holt, Mo., where she attended Holt High School. She was a member of the Holt High School basketball team and participated in track team, where she did pole vault.
Dorothy took much pride in the 28 years she waited tables at Talman's Grill, located at 8th and Central in Kansas City, Mo. She was also a member of TOPS for many years and made many life long friends within the organization.
Dorothy was married to GD Cooper. Before living in their Parkville, Mo., home, Dorothy and GD resided in the Northeast area of Kansas City. Dorothy and GD loved spending time traveling the country on their motorcycle and equally loved sharing stories of their adventures.
Dorothy had 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Dorothy believed her greatest legacy were her grandchildren. They were her heart and soul. She was always willing to share with anyone how many grandchildren she had and how much they meant to her. Dorothy adorned her home with pictures of her grandchildren and enjoyed having them spend nights with her, many at one time. One great memory shared by her grandchildren were the many family Christmas gatherings she hosted in her home.
Dorothy had a strong love for her dogs, cats and gold fish. She was known to take in any stray animal she could feed and love.
Dorothy is survived by her two children, Glenn Charles Day and Cynthia Whitten (Tom Whitten); her brother and sister, Walter M. Helden Jr. (Bonnie Helden) and Edith Linebacker; nine grandchildren, Michelle DeYoung, Angela Etzenhourser, Dana Whitten, Timothy Day, Michael Edward Day II, Benjamin Day, Debbie Todd, and Michael Duane Day;.
